João Filipe Iria Santos Moutinho, or simply João Moutinho (born on September 8, 1986 in Barreiro) is a promising star of the Portuguese football (soccer) playing for Sporting Clube de Portugal.
Although small in stature at 5'7" and 61 kg he lacks nothing in talent and spirit. His great performances against Feyenoord Rotterdam and Newcastle United, made him famous around Europe, and he is one of Sportings crowd favourites and top young players since Cristiano Ronaldo. He has an incredible stamina and consistence throughout many games. Even when the team is perfoming badly, he is out there always giving all he has to offer.
In an award show at the end of his debut season 2004-05 Moutinho was awarded "Rookie of the Year" and "Best Midfielder" in Portugal by a poll of the countries several newspapers. The youngster is under contract to Sporting Lisbon until 2010 with a 20 million buyout clause.
A Portugal international player at the age of 18, he made his debut with Portugal's shirt against Russia in the World Cup's Qualyfing. He has continued to play with the Portugal number 28 shirt in a friendly against Denmark and Portugal's first Euro 2008 qualifying game against Finland, which ended in a draw.

João Moutinho is one of Sporting's favourites. He has a special song for him: "Ele é o 28, ele é baixinho, João Moutinho, João Moutinho!" (He's number 28, he is short... João Moutinho, João Moutinho!)
